Road deaths fall during royal funeral | Bangkok Post: news

(Bangkok Post file photo)Fewer road deaths and injuries were recorded on Thursday when the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej was cremated amid an elaborate five-day royal funeral ceremony, a road safety advocate said Sunday. The average was estimated at 66 a day, or 24,000 a year, according to the World Health Organisation's Global Status Report on Road Safety 2015. Some 57 people died on Oct 24, and 35 died on Oct 25 due to the nation's dangerous roads, figures show. "People travelled a lot on [Thursday] but most of them did not celebrate or party so they drank less and there were fewer accidents. We would be able to reduce the number of fatalities from road accidents and increase road safety," he added.
